Visit the 15th-century Trough of Sultan Qaytbay, an independent Mamluk utility structure in the Northern Cemetery.
Historical Overview
Built in 1474 CE (879 AH) by Sultan al-Ashraf Qaytbay. This historic animal watering trough (hawd) is an independent satellite structure (Reg. 183) separated from his main mosque complex, contributing to the extensive royal urban ensemble in the area.
Why Visit?
A fine example of Mamluk civic utility architecture that sustained the historic cemetery’s inhabitants and travelers.
