Historical Overview
Al-Gamaliya is a large historic urban destination containing and connecting many records we have already created, including parts of Al-Muizz Street, Khan al-Khalili, Bayt al-Suhaymi, Al-Hussein and multiple Mamluk, Fatimid and Ottoman monuments. Its literary identity is equally important: Naguib Mahfouz was born in Al-Gamaliya, and the district and its lanes were fundamental influences on his fiction.
