Historical Overview
Cairo Governorate identifies Al-Salih Tala'i as the last mosque built by the Fatimids in Cairo and notes its unusual elevated form: the prayer level stands above street-level shops whose revenue historically supported the mosque. Its standard heritage record dates it to about 1160 and associates its construction with the Fatimid vizier Tala'i ibn Ruzzik.
