Wikala of al-Ghuri
Al-Ghuriyya / Historic Cairo
Enter one of Cairo's finest surviving merchant caravanserais, where goods were stored around a monumental courtyard and travelling merchants lodged in upper rooms screened with traditional mashrabiyya windows.
Historical Overview
The wikala consists of a rectangular open courtyard surrounded by a ground floor and four upper floors. The lower levels were used for storing merchants' goods, while the upper levels contained lodging units for travelling merchants.
