Planning a trip to Egypt? One of the first things you need to sort out is your tourist visa. Unlike hidden agency markups, the official cost of an Egypt tourist visa is highly transparent.

How Much Does an Egypt Visa Cost?

The official government price for a standard single-entry tourist visa is $25 USD. A multiple-entry visa costs $60 USD and is valid for 6 months.

Warning: Many third-party websites charge hidden processing fees of $30 to $100+ on top of the official $25 fee. Always use the official government portal if applying online.

Option 1: Visa on Arrival (VOA)

Citizens of over 40 countries (including the US, UK, Canada, Australia, and EU nations) can get a Visa on Arrival at any major Egyptian airport (Cairo, Luxor, Hurghada, Sharm El-Sheikh).

How it works:

1. Head to the bank kiosks before passport control.
2. Pay exactly $25 USD in cash (they also accept EUR or GBP, but USD is best to avoid bad exchange rates). Credit cards are generally not accepted at these kiosks.
3. Take the visa sticker and stick it into an empty page in your passport.
4. Proceed to passport control.

Option 2: The E-Visa (Online)

If you prefer having everything sorted before you fly, use the official Egypt e-Visa Portal (visa2egypt.gov.eg).

Requirements:

• Passport valid for at least 6 months from arrival date.
• Apply at least 7 days before departure.
• Costs the same $25 USD, but you can pay with a credit card online.

Do I Need a Visa for Sharm El-Sheikh?

If you are flying directly to Sharm El-Sheikh, Dahab, Nuweiba, or Taba, and staying 15 days or less, you qualify for a free "Sinai Resort Permission" stamp. However, you cannot leave the Sinai Peninsula (e.g., to visit Cairo or Luxor) with this stamp. If you plan to visit the Pyramids, you must buy the $25 visa!
