Kom Bahig Archaeological Site

Kom Bahig lies about 50 km west of Alexandria in the Mareotis region. Excavations since 2016 have revealed occupation levels dating back to the seventh century BCE, followed by substantial Ptolemaic mud-brick and limestone buildings. A paved dromos and associated remains probably belong to a sanctuary that continued until the end of the Ptolemaic period. The site should not be described simply as a third-century-BCE Greco-Roman town or as containing a confirmed Roman theatre without specific evidence.
