Plinthine, generally identified with Kom el-Nugus west of Alexandria, has a much longer history than a purely Hellenistic foundation. Excavations show occupation from at least the New Kingdom, strong development in the Saite-Persian period, and a Hellenistic town and necropolis before the settlement disappeared in the first century CE.
