Elephantine Island
Discover Elephantine Island, a treasure of ancient Egypt in Aswan, where rich history and stunning landscapes await.

Historical Overview
Elephantine Island was one of ancient Egypt’s most important southern frontier settlements and a gateway for trade with Nubia. Archaeological occupation stretches from the earliest dynastic periods through pharaonic, Greco-Roman, Christian and Islamic times. The island preserves temples of Satet and Khnum, settlement remains and Nilometers. It should not be described as a residence of Fifth Dynasty pharaohs.
