Historical Overview

Kom Ombo Archaeological Site is dominated by the unusual double temple developed mainly in the Ptolemaic period and decorated further under Roman rule. Its paired sanctuaries honored Sobek, the crocodile god, and Haroeris (Horus the Elder), with the architecture deliberately organized in parallel halves. The site also includes a Nilometer and evidence connected with the cult of sacred crocodiles.

Why Visit?

The combined visit with the Crocodile Museum makes this one of the most distinctive temple stops between Aswan and Luxor.
