Historical Overview
The Philae temple complex, now reconstructed on Agilkia Island, preserves monuments from several periods. Nectanebo I built important structures in the fourth century BCE, while the principal Temple of Isis was developed extensively under the Ptolemies and continued to receive additions under Roman emperors. The complex remained a major cult center into late antiquity before its modern rescue and relocation.
