Historical Overview
The Temple of al-Derr is a rock-cut sanctuary built for Ramesses II in Lower Nubia during the Nineteenth Dynasty. It was dedicated principally to Ra-Horakhty and Amun-Re and decorated with scenes of the king before the gods. The earlier description incorrectly identified Isis as its main deity. The temple was later relocated to the New Amada area during the Nubian monuments rescue campaign.
