National Military Museum

The National Military Museum is housed in the former al-Haram Palace within Cairo Citadel. The museum traces the development of Egypt’s armed forces across ancient, Islamic and modern periods through weapons, uniforms, documents, models, portraits and reconstructed battle scenes. Its institutional history began in 1937, and the collection was moved to the Citadel in 1949 before later renovations. Outdoor displays include military vehicles, tanks and aircraft associated with modern Egyptian conflicts, while interior galleries present military organization, commanders and major campaigns. Because the museum sits within the Citadel, it should be planned as part of a broader fortress visit rather than as a separate cross-city museum stop.
