Historical Overview
The Tomb of Ankhmahor at Saqqara is a Sixth Dynasty mastaba famous for detailed reliefs depicting medicine, craft and daily life. The tomb is often called the “Physician’s Tomb” because of scenes interpreted as medical or surgical activity, alongside representations of artisans and workers. These reliefs make Ankhmahor’s mastaba one of the most discussed Old Kingdom tombs at Saqqara. Individual tomb access can vary with conservation and site-management rotation, so the general Saqqara ticket does not always guarantee entry.
Why Visit?
Ankhmahor’s tomb is especially valuable for its unusual medical and craft scenes and its insight into Old Kingdom daily life.
