Tomb of Siptah (KV47)

The tomb of Siptah, KV47, was cut for the young Nineteenth Dynasty ruler Siptah and is important for understanding both royal tomb planning and the practical realities of excavation in the crowded Valley of the Kings. The monument follows a long descending sequence of corridors toward a burial chamber, but construction was never fully completed. During excavation, workers accidentally broke into the nearby tomb KV32, which had been made for Queen Tiaa, showing how densely packed the hidden monuments of the valley could be. Surviving decoration includes royal and divine scenes as well as funerary material associated with the king’s journey into the afterlife. Modern archaeological work has documented the tomb, its unfinished sections and the relationship between KV47 and adjacent structures in detail. For visitors, its interest lies less in spectacular preservation than in the way it exposes the process, constraints and unfinished state of royal tomb construction near the end of the Nineteenth Dynasty. Practical planning: Public opening can rotate and some areas of the tomb reflect its unfinished state. Confirm same-day access before planning specifically around KV47.
