Ras Mohammed National Park

Ras Mohammed is Egypt’s oldest and best-known protected area and occupies the dramatic southern tip of the Sinai Peninsula. The national park protects both terrestrial and marine habitats: desert mountains and wadis, coastal cliffs, salt marshes, intertidal flats, mangroves, seagrass beds and exceptionally rich coral reefs. The meeting of the Gulfs of Suez and Aqaba creates varied underwater conditions and some of the Red Sea’s most celebrated diving and snorkeling sites. The protected area is also important for migratory birds, marine turtles and other wildlife. Visitors can experience Ras Mohammed by road or by boat, but these are not identical trips. Land routes can include desert viewpoints, shoreline stops and the mangrove channel, while boat itineraries focus on offshore reefs and snorkeling or diving. White Island is a separate low-lying sand formation visited on some marine excursions and should not be treated as part of every park visit.
