Sharm El-Sheikh Museum
Sharm El-Sheikh Museum presents more than 5,000 objects covering ancient Egyptian civilization, daily life, wildlife and the cultural heritage of Sinai in a modern museum designed for resort visitors.
Historical Overview
Sharm El-Sheikh Museum was created to give visitors to South Sinai access to a broad archaeological collection without traveling to the Nile Valley. Its display is organized around themes of human civilization and ancient Egyptian culture rather than a single archaeological site. The Grand Hall explores relationships between people, animals, crafts, science, mathematics and everyday life, including displays of animal mummies. The Hall of Civilization contains important funerary material connected with Isetemheb, wife of the high priest Panedjem II, together with canopic jars, papyri, cosmetics and perfume vessels. Other highlights include a sculpted head of Hatshepsut, Tanagra figurines and material illustrating Sinai’s cultural heritage. The museum is particularly convenient for resort itineraries because it operates in separate daytime and evening periods, allowing visitors to combine beaches or diving with a museum visit after sunset.
Why Visit?
This is the strongest archaeology museum in South Sinai and a useful complement to a beach-focused trip, especially for travelers who are not visiting Cairo or Luxor immediately.
